My Journey to Coaching
My path to coaching began during a period of profound personal and global upheaval. As the world grappled with unprecedented challenges – a global pandemic, racial unrest, and societal divisions – I was navigating my own season of struggle. Despite years of corporate success and proven leadership experience, I found myself in a place of deep professional disconnection, questioning my value and voice in ways I never had before.
It was during this challenging time that I encountered an executive coach who would change the trajectory of my life. Through our work together, I experienced firsthand the transformative power of coaching. This wasn’t about becoming someone new – it was about reconnecting with my authentic self and the purpose I knew I was put on earth to accomplish: encouraging and empowering women.
The impact of that coaching experience left such an indelible imprint that I knew I had discovered my calling. I realized that through coaching, I could create the same kind of transformative space for others, especially Black women and women of color in leadership and transition. This revelation led me to pursue professional coach training and ultimately launch my own practice.
In 2023, when I was unexpectedly liberated from my corporate role during a wave of tech industry layoffs, I saw it as a divine appointment with purpose. Rather than viewing it as an ending, I chose to pick up my pen and author a new chapter – one that would allow me to fully dedicate myself to supporting other leaders through their own journeys of transformation.
My Approach
Today, as the founder and CEO of WordSmith Coaching & Consulting LLC, I partner with organizations to develop confident, collaborative leaders who know how to bring people together and create cultures where everyone thrives. My approach combines proven leadership development methods with personalized strategies that enable all leaders to step fully into their power.
I have a particular passion for supporting women leaders navigating complex organizational dynamics. Having experienced firsthand as a Black woman the challenges of being “the first,” “the only,” or “part of the few,” I intimately understand both the challenges and opportunities that arise when leading authentically in complex environments.
As a mom of 2 children, I provide powerful support for mothers who are also ambitious professionals, grappling with how to calibrate to meet the sometimes competing demands of these two important aspects of their identity.
